From a noisy scan to CAD.

A coffee-machine component reconstructed from a 3D scan with significant noise. The project pairs the original scan with the rebuilt CAD model and a deviation map.

The task

Reconstruct the geometry of a coffee-machine component from the available scan. The source description identifies significant scan noise, which makes interpreting the underlying shape an important part of the task.

Starting point

The original scan records the component surface, including irregularities visible in the supplied image. It is the reference for the reconstruction, rather than a finished CAD model.

Working with the geometry

The main geometric features were rebuilt as CAD geometry. The project images allow the original scan and the reconstructed model to be viewed separately.

A deviation map accompanies the reconstruction. It visualises the comparison between the digital geometries and helps show where their surfaces differ.

The digital result

The CAD deviation from the scan was within 0.1 mm in the geometry required for this project. This figure applies to the selected required geometry, rather than every surface shown on the deviation map.

The documented result is a reconstructed CAD model and a visual comparison with the source scan. The gallery follows the sequence: scan → CAD → deviation map.

What to agree for a similar project

A comparison with the scan evaluates the digital reconstruction against that input. It does not by itself establish the original dimensions of worn or missing areas, or the accuracy of a subsequently manufactured component.

For a similar task, provide the STL scan, its units, a reference dimension and the surfaces that matter for fit. We agree on the required STEP result, tolerances and checks after reviewing the inputs.
